A town of tourism and agriculture
"Located in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture, Yamanouchi Town is a town blessed with an abundance of nature in the center of the Shiga Kogen (highlands) UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and Joshin-etsu Kogen National Park. It has 3 tourist areas: Shiga Kogen, surrounded by 2,000 m class mountains and the source of crystal-clear streams; Yudanaka Shibu Hot Springs, with 1,300 years of history as a bath and streets dripping with atmosphere; and Kita-Shiga Kogen, where you can enjoy traditional Japanese landscapes. In these tourist areas, you can enjoy the Jigokudani Wild Snow Monkey Park, hot spring baths, some of the best natural powder snow in the country, and a magnificent environment abounding in nature year-round that UNESCO has designated as a Biosphere Reserve.
“That’s why they taste so good! They were grown with crystal-clear water.” Capitalizing on an environment blessed with an abundance of nature and great differences in temperature between nights and days, agriculture thrives here, producing apples, grapes, peaches, and other fruits as well as soba and mushrooms."
