A tourist city located on the shores of Lake Suwa, which has been called the “Switzerland of the East”

Suwa City, once called “Switzerland of the East,” is a tourist city located on the shores of Lake Suwa and centered on precision machinery industries making such things as music boxes and watches, so it is also a traditional industrial cluster city. It is situated roughly in the center of Nagano Prefecture, which is between the metropolitan area with Tokyo at its center and the Chukyo area with Nagoya at its center.

Since it’s at an altitude of over 760 m, it is a comfortable environment, with an inland climate where summer temperatures are somewhat warm but the humidity is much lower than in the big cities. Also, though the cold is harsh in winter, 80% of days are said to be sunny, so you can enjoy good weather as you pass your time there.
